STRUCTURES OF ART EDUCATION
Art can be taught in three distinct stages which start as early as when a child start formal Education upto university level.Poor way of motivating children may discourage them forever to learn Art skills.
Stage one: Spans to the age range mostly five years to 10 years. The focus is to ensure that children
have the opportunity to explore and experiment with art media, such as pencil ,crayons, brushes paint ,clay ,paper and so on
On media they look at what they can or can not do with it. For instance stretching ,drying ,reuse and so on.Children learn concepts like lines -thick and thin.
Stage two:The age range is approximately 11 years to 13 years. Children need the opportunity for further expoloration and experimentation to come up with technique aimed at producing a variety of visual effects. Such as manipulate .a line by changing its direction and make up a shape of one dimension, add a second and third and end up with a drawn structure.
Visual effects are usually associated with printing .The teacher is now a formal instructor and not a provider of material.
Stage three:At this stage age range is 13 years and above. It is when learners develop the techniques learnt in previous stages into skills of Art making.
Applying skills learnt to make Art and this is utilising .
They have now developed confidence in themselves and have mastered creativity .Now have choices of portraits to make.
All these three developmental stages have six main areas they need to be attended to that are:
•Drawing
•Painting
•Modelling
•Printing
•Construction
•Fibre and Textiles
•Cultural history
Cultural history need to be included on the main areas .Drawing can make children capture information and record it.Each of areas has its aims objectives and goal need to document to match each levels
REFERENCE /EXAMPLES
It starts with the home .Exposure to community, districts and nation. It is necessary for a children to be given necessary support to develop Art skills starting from home.Snap survey indicates that most parents discourage their children to do Art. Education practitioners should encourage parents to emulate and support their children 's Art Education.
The exposal of learners at last stage to the world .As it is necessary to gain more information necessary for their skills.
Selecting and sequencing of information to teach is based temporal structure ,materials and expertise.
